The lightning damage area of effect caused by this skill does not count as a melee hit for purposes of effects like Fortify.

This is a Support Gem. It does not grant a bonus to your character, but to skills in sockets connected to it. Place into an item socket connected to a socket containing the Skill Gem you wish to augment. Right click to remove from a socket. would be comparatively worse as it causes skills to deal less damage. Additionally, because of the Vaal Smite buff granting regular Smite an additional target, Ancestral Call may be unnecessary in general.
The area damage from lightning bolts can overlap, causing additional damage to a target if there are nearby enemies.
The aura from this skill does not stack with the aura from regular Smite: Vaal Smite has priority (even if it's weaker).[1]
